Succession and whāngai
Succession with no living descendants
Succession with a living husband, wife, or partner Māori freehold land can be owned by one owner or several owners and in some cases, there might be hundreds of owners in one block or title of land.
Why make this change?
Succession to Māori land interests can be complex for whānau
and for whāngai, and Māori land is often owned by members
of different whānau (with different views on whāngai
succession).
Generally speaking where next
of kin die before the person from whom succession is sought their children are entitled to the share they would have received had they survived the deceased.
