Succession to furtherinterests
If you’ve already submitted your succession application and you discover that there are more Māori land interests to include, you can apply for succession to furtherinterests.
The Court’s core jurisdiction concerns the
investigation, partition, and regulation of
intestate succession to interests in Māori land.
Over its history, the Court’s jurisdiction has
been subject to a number of changes.
When the life tenant dies,
their right to life interest finishes. Many
life interests state that the life interest will
terminate if the life tenant remarries.

And importantly, the Court process provides a
timely opportunity for successors to discuss and agree to their interests being vested
in a whānau trust, which has the huge advantage of curtailing any further
fragmentation of interests.
