The Māori Trustee is appointed, in many cases, to act as a responsible trustee to manage Māori freehold land and other assets on behalf of the beneficial owners.
We worked for the back office of large British bank based in Hong Kong. This was during the run up to the hand back of Hong Kong to the People’s Republic of China, and our job was to establish and administer trust structures to receive the assets of wealthy Chinese prior to their migration to either Canada or Australia.
If the Court considers that the minority trustee is acting
unreasonably, they could be removed from office for cause.
