The Māori Land Information System (MLIS), the Court’s previous system which held information about whenua Māori and the court record, was only accessible in the court’s district offices.
Following the Government’s decision last week to remove the remaining COVID-19
restrictions, the judiciary, informed by public health advice, reviewed the court
operating protocols.
These reports can provide information about a land block and can help you:
find out where the whenua is — you’ll be able to see the boundaries of the land and find it on the map
see aerial photos of the whenua as it looks now
find out about the environment, economy, and climate where the whenua is
get information about the whenua itself — about the soil, water, slope, and vegetation.
Māori Land Court hearings are open to the public. However, if a sensitive matter is being discussed, the judge may decide to close the court sitting to the public.
