The exception, of course, is the election of their representative on the ahu whenuatrust before its inaugural AGM. Accordingly, whilst all the beneficiaries of the respective whānautrusts are also beneficiaries of the ahu whenuatrust, there is no election of trustees at an ahu whenuatrust AGM.
Support was given for the formation of a whānautrust. An application to constitute a whānautrust was filed in 2004 and eventually heard in February of 2005.
Section 218 of Te Ture Whēnua Māori Act 1993 contains a list of Māori community purposes to which income
from the whānautrust may be applied if provision is made in the trust order.

14.4 This is the standard treatment of whānautrusts that put their shares into
ahu whenuatrusts.
Since 1 July 1993, shares in a Māori incorporation are deemed
to be interests in Māori land and unless there’s an exemption,
they’re treated the same as Māori land interests.
