The rapid pace of Treaty settlements has created challenges for the Tribunal, and the number of the applications in the Māori Land Court continues to rise as well.
These powers will only be exercised in extreme cases where a judge is satisfied that it’s necessary. In your application, you’ll need to provide:
evidence that those persons holding at least 10% of the shares in the incorporation seek an investigation or
evidence that a special resolution was passed at a general meeting of the shareholders seeking an investigation

Filing an application in respect of the following:
(a) hearing and determining any claim to recover damages from trespass or any other
injury to Māori freehold land
(b) hearing and determining any proceeding founded on contract or tort where debt,
demand, or damage relates to Māori freehold
The changes affect all trusts,
including Māori land trusts created through the Māori Land Court
(such as ahu whenua, kaitiaki, and whānau trusts) and existing
trusts established before the law came into force.
This speech will be about my role as a Judge of the Māori Land Court. However, because I became a Judge only a matter of weeks ago, I do not yet have many stories to share with you about my new job.
