My tipuna were part of the diaspora of Taranaki Māori in the 19th century, finally settling on Aropaoa Island in Queen Charlotte Sound. My grandmother Pirihira was bought up in Waikawa, part of the extended Watson or Tahuaroa whānau.

This working List is comprised of successors to the 181 original beneficiaries who were allocated land on Rakiura under the ‘SILNA’ scheme. The South Island Landless Native Act 1906 was repleaded in 1909 without these 181 original beneficiaries having received their land.
