When the Crown’s claim to the Patetere block
was about to be heard in 1881, the Waikato Times
reported that over a thousand people would be
attending. On 19 February, it was reported in the
Waikato Times that ‘the attendance was very
large, and considerable interest appeared to be
taken in the proceedings’.
