Final resolution
That an application be filed with the Māori Land Court to constitute the [name of ahu whenua
or whenua tōpū trust], appoint [list the full names of the electedtrustees] as trustees and
approve the draft trust order.
The Māori reservation trustees administer places of importance to all the beneficiaries.
2) Where Utuhina differs is in the way they elect their ahu whenua trustees:
The beneficiaries of the respective whānau trusts choose not only their whānau trust trustees but also who of those trustees will be their representative on the ahu whenua trust.
Nominations
Anyone can be nominated as a trustee.
The minimum number of trustees for a
reservation is two people (unless the trustee
is a body corporate 7, such as a Māori trust
board or a Māori incorporation).

Within te ao Māori, rangatiratanga can embody the authority of a rangatira (a Chief) but importantly also
that of the people, being the whānau (family), hapū (sub-tribe) and iwi (tribe).
The Court has now directed that a hui of the descendants be called as follows:
• To discuss and consider setting the land aside as a Māori Reservation, including:
o a reservation name and purpose
o for whom reservation may be set aside
o trustees (meeting may electtrustees if a reservation is decided);
• The Court has appointed an independent facilitator for the hui.
