In August 2020, targeted amendments were made to Te Ture Whenua Māori Act 1993. Amongst other
changes, the amendments allowed for the establishment of a dispute resolution service to provide tikanga-
informed mediation for parties with whenua Māori disputes to have those matters heard outside of the
court process.
(b) To avoid doubt, succession to this occupation order does not alter, vary or
change any of the terms or conditions set out in this Schedule, including the
duration of this occupation order.
The period covered has been one of change for the Court, with the introduction of the new Pātaka Whenua system to support Court kaimahi, judges and landowners.
It includes:

Court orders (the decisions made by a Registrar or the Court)

To date, the programme delivered business transformation for the Māori Land Court, including legislative changes, a new operating model, and streamlined business processes.
Steve has held multiple roles within the Court, including as a case manager, team leader, district manager, Principal Liaison Officer and Service Manager, before being appointed as the Chief Registrar of the Māori Land Court in February 2021.
