The Act:
• promotes the retention and use of Māori land
• facilitates the occupation, development and use
of that land
• ensures decisions made about Māori land are
fair and balanced, taking into account the needs
of all the owners and their beneficiaries.
At least one trustee
must hold all other core trust documents (such as property,
financial and administrative records including trustees’
decisions).
Trustees must also make basic trust information available to
all beneficiaries (such as a list of the trust’s beneficiaries, the
name and contact details of trustees, and the appointment or
removal of trustees).
If there is no quorum, the trustees
may meet, but no decisions are effective until ratified by a majority of trustees at their next meeting.
3.20 At general meetings, four trustees and six beneficiaries must be present to have a quorum.
