MĀORI LAND COURT JUDGMENT DELIVERY EXPECTATIONS
16 September 2026
Judgment delivery expectations
All judges of the Māori Land Court aim to deliver decisions as promptly as possible.
Most applications filed in the Court are resolved in Court, or in Chambers, especially the
more straightforward ones.
That number will change as life interests
terminate, interests are consolidated into trusts, and applications for succession are
filed with the Court.
Accretion and final orders
In terms of the accretion, LINZ guidelines state that to establish an accretion claim the
following three components must be present:
1.
Tuhinga Ārahi - Kōpoutanga rōia nā te tahua āwhina motuhake
Special Aid Practice Note

Mr Tootill seeks an adjournment of the hearing for at least one
week in order to familiarise himself with the history of the matter, to review the
documents filed and to seek full instructions from the executor.
