The unique relationship between Māori and whenua is
recognised by the MLC, and the records held by the Court
form an invaluable part of the whakapapa of all Māori people.
An applicationform based on the existing form for successions has been modified for the purposes of SILNA determinations, and individual applications are linked to a central file to ensure consistency.
This means that wills do not apply, and all legal children are entitled to succeed, equally. The applications are free.
