improving these taonga as possible;
(c) working with the beneficial owners and their whānau to promote te reo Māori me ōna
tikanga, including encouraging wānanga about the mātauranga connected with the
whenua, its whakapapa and history, and the tikanga Māori relevant to its use and
management;
(d) developing a concept plan for the block that identifies the key aspirations of the beneficial
owners and a programme for implementation.

Thus, we have opened
a new chapter in the history of the Māori Land
Court.
As a consequence, we are in a transition
phase between the old approach and new.
To my Māori language, I thank you, I thank you for your fortitude and perseverance. According to our history, in the years of the 1970s, you were close to your demise.

9Te Kooti Whenua Māori/ Te Kooti Pira Māori Pūrongo-A-Tau - Matariki 2023 - 2024
For the first time in the history of the Court, both
the judiciary and the business unit developed our
first joint vision for Te Kooti Whenua Māori.
The students were given a guided tour of the
Māori Land Court in Whangarei, followed by an
insightful presentation from Judge Armstrong on
the history and significance of the Māori Land
Court.
