While it is not a comprehensive statement of the law and does not bind judges, Te Puna Manawa Whenua serves as a guide and reference for judges to refer to. However, judges retain discretion over how they use its standard documents and templates and tailor them to the specific facts and legal issues of each case.
Māori women judges have agreed to work with a group of Māori women lawyers to provide networking and mentoring support, so as to encourage young Māori women lawyers to take their careers as far as possible.

Charging orders – water services charges In certain situations, Māori landowners may have to pay for water services. If an owner of Māori freehold land in multiple ownership has paid more than their share of water services changes, they can apply to the Māori Land Court for a “charging order” to recover the excess amount paid.
