Setting up a trust
Landowners can set up a trust by holding a meeting,
nominating trustees to manage their property interests, and
then applying to the Māori Land Court (application forms
can be obtained from Māori Land Court offices).

Setting up a trust
Landowners can set up a trust by holding a meeting,
nominating trustees to manage their property interests, and
then applying to the Māori Land Court (application forms
can be obtained from Māori Land Court offices).
The process to do this is different from other
Māori Land Court application processes.
Landowners and other interested parties, if
appropriate, should hold a meeting to decide
to set aside land as a Māori reservation.
(state your full name), apply for an Occu-
pation Order over the Māori freehold land or General Land owned by Māori named above as the site for a house.
As for incorporations, the Act provides that every Māori incorporation holds the land
and assets “on trust” for the incorporated owners in proportion to their several
interests in the land (s 250(4)).
If the trustees acquire further land or other assets for the purposes of the trust, that land
becomes trust land, and the other assets become trust property.
(b) Promote title improvement by:
(i) granting or acquiring any type of right or interest in land;
(ii) subdividing any land;
(iii) bringing any application to the Māori Land Court that might facilitate the
operation of this Trust and the improvement of title to land (held by the
Trustees on behalf of the Trust), including applications under Part 14
of the Act; and
