The changes affect all trusts, including Māori land trusts created through the Māori Land Court (such as ahu whenua, kaitiaki, and whānau trusts) and existing trusts established before the law came into force.

A whenua tōpū trust can also hold non-land assets, such as houses, vehicles, or general land interests.
They have now agreed to put those tensions behind them as it relates to the land (rather than personalities!) and have adopted this ahu whenua/whānau trust structure.
From 1 July 2025, the Māori Land Court fees will increase by 3.65%. The details are set out below.
