The register will record, for each member of the management committee: details of member’s interest in the Māori freehold land incorporated; the dealings in the interests by the member; and declarations made by members.
When this happens, descendants who do whakapapa to the land are often not entitled to succeed to their land interest or shares until the spouse or partner enters a new relationship, dies or surrenders their interest.
Succession is the legal transfer of interests or shares in Māori land from a person who has passed away to the people who are legally entitled to own those interests.
