Why make this change? Succession to Māori land interests can be complex for whānau and for whāngai, and Māori land is often owned by members of different whānau (with different views on whāngai succession).

Trustees are appointed by the Māori Land Court under the jurisdiction set out in s 222 of Te Ture Whenua Māori Act 1993.
If an owner with Māori land interests is deceased, and probate, letters of administration or an election to administer the estate have been granted by High Court, or is to be obtained, you can use this form to seek a determination from the Court as to those persons entitled to a deceased’s Māori Land interests and an order transferring the interests to those entitled.

Your application will be considered ‘uncontested’ when: • it has been notified according to the Māori Land Court Rules; and • it has been published in the Māori Land Court’s National Pānui; and • no one has objected to the application.
