Te Kooti Whenua Māori – MāoriLand Court (MLC) is the
New Zealand Court that hears matters relating to Māoriland.
Use this form to apply to the Court for a partition of MāoriLand or the combined partition of Māori and General Land
to separate out owner’s shares into new landtitles.
14. Where the title to the land is held by a Māoriland trust or a Māori Incorporation, the
mortgage has to be sent to the MāoriLand Court’s Registrar for noting (ss 150A and
150B of the Act).
First, the report recommends that the law “provide transparent registration provisions
for Māorilandtitles and assurance of title to reflect the nature of Māoriland tenure
as a collectively held tāonga tuku iho.”

A private subdivision of whenua may be made, without lodging an application with the MāoriLand Court, if:
all the legal owners agree to the subdivision (where there is no trust)
all the trustees agree to the subdivision (where the land is vested in trustees)
the management committee of a Māori incorporation agrees (where the land is vested in a Māori incorporation)
the new titles,...
