This model for the utilisation of multiply-owned Māori land had its origins in Taitokerau in 1989 where, under s 438 of the Māori Affairs Act 1953, a block was vested in a trust with exclusive use areas identified in a schedule to the trust order for whānau shareholding groups.
Former Judge Layne Harvey discusses the appointment of trustees to Māori land trusts, the ability, experience, knowledge, and acceptability of the nominees.
Special fixtures are arranged and advertised in accordance
with the provisions of the Mäori Land Court Rules and they
may not necessarily be listed in this publication.
We get a small amount of dividend payments each year and a tax return has to be prepared. Our trust order requires the trust to be reviewed every five years by the Māori Land Court.
Section 218 of Te Ture Whēnua Māori Act 1993 contains a list of Māori community purposes to which income
from the whānau trust may be applied if provision is made in the trust order.

(Note: The term trusts includes all types of management structure, including Ahu Whenua Trusts, Whenua Tōpū Trusts, Pūtea Trusts,
Māori Incorporations and non-Māori Land Court created structures or organisations but it does not include agencies or agents)
