The Chief Executive of the Māori Land Court is required to record a list of persons who are approved as mediators. There is the ability to appoint a mediator beyond that list if the parties consider that it is justified in the circumstances and the appointment is approved by the Chief Executive and the Judge or Registrar who referred the matter to a mediator.

Parties may choose a mediator from this list, or, in   some   circumstances, agree on another suitable mediator.

Once the signed Head Agreement is returned, the approved mediator will be included in a mediator list published on Te Kooti Whenua Māori public website, and be available for selection and appointment to mediate disputes under Te Ratonga Whakatau Wenerau.

You are encouraged to obtain agreement from all parties involved in the dispute to participate in mediation. If you cannot get the agreement of all parties involved, let a Māori Land Court staff member know you need assistance.
