A trustformed around common tipuna that allows the whānau to bring together
their Māori land interests for the benefit of the whānau being the descendants of
the common tipuna.
The Benefits Notwithstanding the very lengthy amount of time it took to form the whānau trust and the ongoing administration, what have been the benefits of forming the whānau trust?
Examples of what could be considered ‘simple’ trust matters
include:
• forming a whānau trust for a single owner’s interests or
shares; or
• terminating a kaitiaki trust for a minor when the person
reaches 20 years of age; or
• appointing a trustee to a whānau trust.
