It is also rarely being used by owners in their capacity as owners. If they have possession of the land they will have, in most cases, an Occupation Order or a leasing arrangement with the owners.
Occupation orders can now be granted not only to the landowner or any person entitled to succeed to their interest, but also to beneficiaries of the whānau trust that holds a beneficial interest in the land.

The register will record, for each member of the management committee: details of member’s interest in the Māori freehold land incorporated; the dealings in the interests by the member; and declarations made by members.
Where an owner has a life interest or is a joint tenant in Māori Land you can use this form to transfer those interests to the beneficiaries (remainderman) or the other party to a joint tenancy where the life/joint tenant has passed away, wishes to surrender their interests or the life tenant has remarried or entered into a civil union or de facto relationship.
