The minimum number of trustees for a reservation is two people (unless the trustee is a body corporate 7, such as a Māori trust board or a Māori incorporation). A trustee does not have to be an owner in the land.

My marae are Muru Raupatu at Bell Block and Waikawa Marae near Picton. My tipuna were part of the diaspora of Taranaki Māori in the 19th century, finally settling on Aropaoa Island in Queen Charlotte Sound.
However, they are entitled to receive any income from that land interest, including income from incorporation shares or rights to any grants, for their lifetime.
