Māori Incorporation Register MāoriLand Update
Our MāoriLand Update is released annually and provides:
the number of customary and freehold titles of Māoriland
the number and types of management structures and the size of the land they are responsible for managing.
They stepped into the acting leadership of the Court and Tribunal from 1 May 2023 and will do so until a new Chief Judge is sworn in and a new Chairperson appointed. The Minister of Māori Development has sought expressions of interest for the next Chief Judge of the MāoriLand Court, and will in due course announce the appointment of the next Chief Judge and Chairperson of the Waitangi Tribunal.

Of the appointment, the Chief Justice said:
“The role that Judge Fox now assumes as Chief Judge of the MāoriLand Court is
a role of great responsibility.
The modern MāoriLand Court exists in an environment that is significantly different to that in which was created on 30 October 1865 by the General Assembly of the New Zealand Colony under the Native Lands Act 1865.
