Succession is the legal transfer of interests or shares in Māori
land from a person who has passed away to the people who
are legally entitled to own those interests.
The Level 2 protocol for the Māori Land Court was released on 13 May 2020 and provided that the judiciary would continue to determine applications on the papers where possible, and hearings by way of by telephone conference, zoom and AVL would be preferred to in-person hearings. 4 Where in-person hearings are scheduled, there will be a series of measures to ensure the safety of participants, and compliance with social distancing hygiene restrictions.
(2) The following matters must be set out in the application:
(a) in respect of the order or certificate of confirmation that is the subject of the application,—
(i) the date of the order or certificate; and
(ii) a description of the land affected; and
(iii) the names of the owners affected or, in the case of succession, the name of the deceased:
(b) in respect of the mistake or omission sought to be corrected,—
(i) a statement of the nature of the mistake or omission, who made it, and how...
Any owner or interested person may use this form to apply to the Court to call or direct the Registrar to call a meeting
of assembled owners for any Māori Freehold land or General Land owned by Māori to consider 1 or more resolutions for
those matters set out in section 172 of Te Ture Whenua Māori Act 1993 (attached as a schedule to this form)
