Trusts can be 'interest based' or 'landbased'. Interest based trusts hold interests (or shares in Māori landblocks, while ‘landbased’ trusts may manage a Māori landblock or blocks on behalf of landowners.

1.1 After logging into Pātaka Whenua as a registered user, on the left side click “Search” then “Block” – this will
take you to the BlockSearch
1.2 In the “Block Name” field, start typing the name of the block.
There will be a range of other factors that have held back the
progress of such landblocks.
In practice, when the engaged owners wish to progress their land they simply
constitute an ahu whenua trust.
