At some stage of your whenua journey, you will need to establish and maintain a relationship with the local council in your area and where yourland is situated.
Use this form to apply to the Court for an order vesting part or all of any Māori Land or General Land owned by Māori
in an owner or a person entitled to succeed to an owner for the purpose of a house site or to confirm an existing house
site (including a house that has already been built and is located on the land).
You can also request the appointment of someone who is not on the published list to hear your dispute.
Any requests to appoint a mediator from beyond the list must be approved by the Director of the Māori Land Court before they can proceed.
Important Note: If an undivided interest in land i.e. shares in a block is being transferred, section 148 of the Act requires the transferee to be a member of
the preferred classes of alienees which comprise –
• A child or remoter issue of the transferor.
• Whanaunga who are associated in accordance with tikanga Māori with the land.
• An owner in the land who is a member of the hapü associated with the land.
• A trustee of a person belonging to 1 to 3 above.
