Of those, 14 spent a significant part of their young life living on Māori freehold land. Now only 3 live on Māori freehold land.
Background As a youth and young adult I became aware that on my mother’s side our family had Māori land interests in the King Country and Whanganui areas.
I certainly tested her patience when I was young, but I was very close with my nan as she was with all of her mokopuna and she is certainly missed here today.
