Historically, most succession applications were heard by a Māori Land Court judge.
Why make this change? Succession to Māori land interests can be complex for whānau and for whāngai, and Māori land is often owned by members of different whānau (with different views on whāngai succession).

I also filed two section 45 applications in relation to those succession applications which were made in the 1970s.
Minute books also recorded succession to interests that were subject to consolidation up until final allocation of new titles was made.
