It allows the whānau to bring together their Māori land interests for the benefit of the whānau and their descendants.

The Act now clarifies that Māori Land Court judges will follow the tikanga of the hapū or iwi associated with the land being succeeded to when deciding whether whāngai can succeed to a land interest. This means that in some cases whāngai may succeed to land interests as if they were a birth child or grandchild of the person who has passed.

The Maori Land Court will ‘vest’ the land interest by way of a vesting order. This occurs most commonly between close whānau members.
Affected parties include successors to the deceased and persons who may have an interest that may be affected by this application.
Occupation orders can now be granted not only to the landowner or any person entitled to succeed to their interest, but also to beneficiaries of the whānau trust that holds a beneficial interest in the land.
Use this form when exchanging some or all of your interests in Māori Land by sale or gift with some or all of the Māori Land interests of a different owner in a different block of Māori Land.
