As the first fully bilingual judgment issued in its history, it signals the enhancement of te reo Māori in the Court. This, at a time when the nation is celebrating the 50th year of the anniversary of the Māori language petition, the 40th anniversary of tekohanga reo and the 35th anniversary of te reo Māori becoming an official language of Aotearoa New Zealand.
Chief Judge Fox has also been the presiding officer for the Waitangi Tribunal on the Aquaculture claims, the Te Arawa Mandate and Settlement claims, Central North Island Stage 1 claims, the TeKōhanga Reo claims and the Te Rohe Pōtae claims.
