We were established to convert customary Māori land into titles which could be acquired, initially by the colonial government and later by individual settlers.

Land Information New Zealand
Toitū te Whenua hold information about historical transfers, surveying titles, or land that has been converted to general land.
The
trustee becomes the legal owner when the order appointing them as trustee for the
land is registered against the title. The beneficiaries are called the beneficial owners.
