Records may be separated by type of trust, and in some cases the records of particular types of trusts may be on the personal/personalty files.

This is the case for the largest and most successful trusts and incorporations, such as the Tuaropaki Trust and Mangatu Incorporation, right down to the smallest papakainga trusts.

During the Māori Freehold Land Registration Project, the Court came across a number of instances of this kind.
Whenua Māori held by a Māori land trust 3. Where the title to the land is vested in a Māori land trust (e.g. an Ahu Whenua Trust or a Whānau Trust) the trustees can approve a mortgage against the land subject to any restrictions in the trust order (ss 147 and 150A of the Act)
