Many landowner journeys begin when a whānau member passes away and their land interests or shares in an incorporation are transferred to their whānau members.
That written notice must be filed in the Māori Land Court not later than 4.00pm, Friday 23rd January 2026. Succession to Māori land interests can be complex for whānau and for whāngai, and Māori land is often owned by members of different whānau (with different views on whāngai succession).
