attending regular trustee meetings to discuss and debate plans for the trust
communicating with owners and organising hui for owners or trustees to discuss plans for the whenua

The Māori Land Court is very aware of the importance of this work to the completion of Ngāi Tahu’s settlement and is working hard with dedicated resources to make further progress as quickly as possible while also ensuring care is taken in dealing with the whakapapa. Pātaka Whenua is the name of the technology
and it accurately describes its purpose as a storage
house; for the record, for landowner stories and
for whakapapa which recount the tenuous and
often tumultuous journey that Māori have had
with their whenua and whānau.
In May 2023 we launched a redesigned web-
site and a new online portal – Pātaka Whenua.
The introduction of the Pātaka Whenua
technology was part of a wider Whenua Māori
Programme of change which also included
implementing legislative change and intro-
ducing new ways of working.
