Rule 5.11(2)(b) of the Māori Land Court Rules 2011 states that a report must be produced and made available to the public of all applications filed in the Māori Land Court that are six months or older and where a final decision has not yet been made on that application.
While judges have been chosen from other areas of the profession, these are the exception rather than the rule. Māori women judges have agreed to work with a group of Māori women lawyers to provide networking and mentoring support, so as to encourage young Māori women lawyers to take their careers as far as possible.
There are two application types you can file under section 214 of Te Ture Whenua Māori Act 1993
and rule 12.3 of the Māori Land Court Rules 2011 to form a whānau trust.
