The Aotea Māori Land Court has been trialing a Fast-Track Process for appointing and replacing trustees of Māori land trusts.
Trusts within the New Plymouth, Te Hāwera, and Whanganui districts of the Aotea Māori Land Court may be eligible for this process where applications involve straightforward, uncontested trustee appointments and/or replacements, and are supported by all required documentation.
To support this initiative, the Court has established a dedicated monthly hearing for Fast-Track applications. The process has been designed to help whānau complete trustee changes more quickly, reduce waiting times, and provide a clearer and more efficient pathway through the application process.
The trial started in April and will continue until the end of 2026, when it will be renewed.
If you would like to find out whether your trust's application is suitable for the Fast-Track Process, or if you need guidance on the documents required, please contact the Aotea Māori Land Court at mlcaotea@justice.govt.nz
