The Act recognises that blocks of Māori land are generally
owned by people connected to each other and to the land
through kin groups, such as iwi7 and hapū8.

Note: Abode refers to the place of residence for the individual as listed in the Native Land
Register for the Wānaka Block 1895.
So it was not uncommon on this project to have a block with an appellation such as this: Waerenga East No 2 B, Waerenga East No 1, Section 7block 5 Rotoiti Survey District, Maungaroa Kaharoa No 12 block (Amalgamated) Lot C.
