It need
only have selected the top 20 trusts and incorporations in the country and surveyed
which of their initiatives in the last 20 years required the endorsement of the Court.
Conversely, another ahu whenua trust with assets in excess of $10 million and income exceeding $300,000.00 has less than 20 owners, and all of their addresses are known by the responsible trustee so an in person, telephone or postal ballot is a simple process.
Māori engagement with environmental and resource management issues is going to be huge in the next 10 to 20 years. We will need lawyers who can combine knowledge of te reo me ona tikanga, and the Treaty, with the practice of environmental law.
Exceptions include:
• a succession to further interests where
there has been previous succession to
the deceased person
• vesting of lands in a minor who has
turned 20 (provided that all appropriate
documentary evidence is filed with the
application).
Further estimates, appeals and rehearings
20. If it becomes evident that actual costs will exceed the grant of Special Aid, the lawyer
must as soon as reasonably practicable file a further estimate together with reasons for
the increase in costs.

Chief Judge Caren Fox was appointed to the Māori Land Court on 1 October 2000 and was later appointed as Deputy Chief Judge on 20 February 2010. She was in Gisborne as one of the resident Judges for the Tairāwhiti District of the Māori Land Court, prior to her appointment as Chief Judge.
