Trustees and Māori communities must spend a considerable amount of time and effort fundraising, making applications for grants and donating their own time to working bees and the like to look after the reservation.
I commented on the obvious importance of good governance to our Māori and New Zealand futures. While my comments were focussed on Māori land, they are equally applicable to other Māori assets.
I know this is a problem, and in my view primarily a matter of banks becoming educated in the Te Ture Whenua Māori Act 1993.
