This update is issued by the Office of the Chief Registrar, Māori Land Court | Te Kooti Whenua Māori
as part of the ongoing efforts to help inform and assist owners, organisations and government
agencies about the characteristics of Māori Customary and Māori Freehold Land.
If an owner with Māori Land interests is deceased, and a succession has not previously been dealt with by the Court or a
Registrar, you can use this form to seek a determination from the Court as to those persons entitled to a deceased’s
Māori Land interests and an order transferring the interests to those entitled.
Please provide an address if this venue is not a Māori Land Court location.

the Māori Land Court or Māori Appellate Court under the Māori Land Court Fees Regulations 2013.
That provides a great deal of protection because the land cannot be sold or gifted away. Nor can the land be taken by way of an agreement under the Public Works Act 1981.
