The Tākitimu Māori Land Court has moved into its newly refurbished premises in Farming House, Hastings with the new space formally opened during a kawanga whare (formal building opening ceremony) on 31 July.
Special fi xtures are arranged and advertised in
accordance with the provisions of the Mäori Land
Court Rules and they may not necessarily be listed in
this publication.
The Court may, on considering your notification, arrange for the application to be set down for a formal
hearing if the application has yet to be determined or for a rehearing if the application has already been
determined.
To date, the Court has determined the successors of 125 original owners and are now seeking whakapapa information for the remaining owners from around 1895 who have not yet been succeeded to.
The Māori Land Court (formerly the Native Land Court) has existed since 1865 and the Māori
Appellate Court (formerly the Native Appellate Court) since 1894.
When this happens, descendants
who do whakapapa to the land are often not entitled to succeed
to their land interest or shares until the spouse or partner enters
a new relationship, dies or surrenders their interest.
