The Act stipulates that the Court's objective is to keep Māori landsin Māori hands, protect wāhi tapu, and assist landowners in living on, developing, and using their land for the benefit of all owners, their whānau, and their hapū.
The Court may, on considering your notification, arrange for the application to be set down for a formal hearing if the
application has yet to be determined or for a rehearing if the application has already been determined.
Te Kooti Whenua Māori has directed that a hui-a-owners takes place for the sole purpose of an Election of Trustees, for each of the following Māori Reservations.
Any person appearing inthe Māori Land Court, or in any court in New Zealand, can speak or file written documents in te reo Māori as a right under the Māori Language Act 2016.
If an owner of Māori freehold landin multiple ownership has paid more than their share of water services changes, they can apply to the Māori Land Court for a “charging order” to recover the excess amount paid.
Appeals to Māori Appellate Court - in relation to a decision of the Māori Land Court
Under section 171 of the Local Government (Water Services) Act 2025, parties may appeal to the Māori Appellate Court on a question of law only in relation to a decision of the Māori Land Court around access to Māori land for water infrastructure.
