Manatōpū MāoriMāori incorporation
A Māori incorporation has a structure like a company and can be set up over any Māori land.
The register will record, for each member of the management
committee: details of member’s interest in the Māorifreehold
land incorporated; the dealings in the interests by the
member; and declarations made by members.

Māori Incorporation Register Māori Land Update
Our Māori Land Update is released annually and provides:
the number of customary and freehold titles of Māori land
the number and types of management structures and the size of the land they are responsible for managing.

Office of the Māori Trustee
The Māori Trustee is appointed, in many cases, to act as a responsible trustee to manage Māorifreehold land and other assets on behalf of the beneficial owners.
These are maintained by the local council, or the New Zealand Transport Agency if the roadway is a state highway or motorway. A private Māori roadway on Māorifreehold land can only become a public roadway if:
there’s enough support from the owners of that roadway for it to become public
the local council has agreed in writing to take over and maintain the roadway, and
compensation between the owners and council has been agreed and paid.
