Freehold titles are often divided by partition order.
The land retains the status of Māori land. The status of the land will continue to
be Māori land unless and until the Māori Land Court makes an order changing the
status of the land.
Once the mortgage has been noted by the Registrar, or a certificate confirming the
mortgage has been issued, your solicitor can register the mortgage against the title to the
land with Land Information New Zealand in the same way that a mortgage would be
registered against General land.
Use this form to seek Court confirmation of an instrument or agreement of sale or gift of Māori Land;
or to confirm a resolution of assembled owners to transfer Māori Land by way of sale or gift.

Māori Land Court
3.21 The trustees must advise the Māori Land Court of the names of the trustees elected at any general meeting.
3.22 The election of trustees is subject to confirmation by the Māori Land Court.

The owner of a beneficial interest in land. Where land is vested in trustees,
the trustees own the land as legal owners on behalf of the beneficiaries.
This form may be used to apply to the Court to confirm one or more resolutions passed by owners in Māori Freehold
Land or General Land owned by Māori who together are members of the same family and who have taken the
opportunity to meet together following a family gathering (such as tangi, wedding or reunion).
