Te Puna Manawa Whenua is written by Māori Land Court judges. It is overseen by a judicial editing komiti, comprised of Māori Land Court judges, supported by legal research counsel from the Māori Land Court.
While it is not a comprehensive statement of the law and does not bind judges, Te Puna Manawa Whenua serves as a guide and reference for judges to refer to.
The former Chief Judge, Judge Isaac, retired from his role on 30 April, and accordingly Deputy Chief Judge Fox and Deputy Chairperson Judge Reeves have taken up the roles of Acting Chief Judge and Acting Chairperson respectively.
She was also appointed as an Alternate Environment Court Judge in 2009. Chief Judge Fox was appointed as the Deputy Chief Judge of the Māori Land Court in 2010, and as the Chief Judge of the Court in 2023.
The occasion brought together Māori Land Court staff and members of the judiciary, including Chief Māori Land Court Judge Dr Caren Fox, Deputy Chief Judge Craig Coxhead, Justice Layne Harvey, and other Māori Land Court judges.
