OCCUPATION ORDER:
An occupation order provides the right to build on a piece of
land owned by multiple owners (but does not grant a title of
ownership over that piece of land).
Title reconstruction and improvement is
covered by Part XIV of Te Ture Whenua Māori
Act 1993. The principal purpose of this part of
the Act is to empower the Māori Land Court
to facilitate the use and occupationof land
by Māori landowners, enabling owners to
improve their land holdings through better title
configuration, and provide, add to or otherwise
enhance their access to the land.
