The main claimant for the block was the
Hawke’s Bay rangatira Karaitiana Takamoana,
who had earlier formed part of a group of chiefs
who had leased the land to a consortium of
Pākehā runholders led by Thomas Tanner.
The block is
within the Aotea Māori Land Court district. That sale cannot proceed unless the owners give
to the preferred classes of alienees a right of first refusal.
The list includes non-judicial mediators and Māori Land Court judges who are available to act as mediators.
You can also request the appointment of someone who is not on the mediator list to hear your dispute.
You are encouraged to obtain agreement from
all parties involved in the dispute to participate
in mediation. If you cannot get the agreement
of all parties involved, let a Māori Land Court
staff member know you need assistance.
